Rassoul Dinarvand, PhD

Rassoul Dinarvand, received his Pharm.D. from University of Tehran in 1988. He then successfully completed his M.Sc. in 1990 and his Ph.D. in 1993 in the field of Controlled Drug Delivery Systems at the University of Manchester, UK. He then joined Faculty of Pharmacy, Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 1994 as a faculty member. He was promoted to full professorship in Pharmaceutics in 2005. He then became the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Tehran University of Medical Sciences in 2009 for 4 years.
Prof. Dinarvand has been active in the pharmaceutical administration in both industry and government at the highest level: seven years as CEO of several Pharmaceutical companies and twice as Deputy Minister of Health and Head of Iran Food and Drug Administration (8 years). He has also been involved in pharmacoeconomy and national drug policy research. However his main research interest is in the area of polymeric drug delivery systems and has published over 350 international papers in this field. In recent years he has focused on the design and application of nano-structures as targeted drug delivery systems mainly in the field of cancer treatment. His group have established several knowledge-based companies active in this field. He is the founder and director of Nanotechnology Research Centre, Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

►Employment History
Professor Ahmed is a Bangladeshi citizen, born at Brahmanbaria in 1955. He has bright academic and professional career. He started his professional career in the Department of Chemistry, Chittagong University as a Lecturer since 1st April, 1981. He has been appointed as a Professor of Chemistry in 1995. Prof. Ahmed obtained his PhD degree in Analytical Chemistry from Jadavpur University, India in 1990 under the Govt. of India Scholarship Scheme. He worked as a postdoctoral fellow in Analytical Chemistry with Prof. R.M. Smith of Loughborough University on a Commonwealth Fellowship (2000-2001) and this was followed with Prof. M. I. Karayannis, University of Ioannina, Greece(1995-1996), with Prof. Michael Moore, Director, National Research Centre for Environmental Toxicology, of The Queensland University, Australia(1997) on a Commonwealth Science Council Fellowship and Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing(2006 & 2009) on a CAS-TWAS Fellowship. Prof. Ahmed has been appointed as an honorary Visiting Professor at the Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh, Pakistan from 1 April, 2004 to 31 December, 2012 under the programme “Foreign Academia’s for Public Sector Universities” of the Ministry of S & T, Govt. of Pakistan. During his visits there he has actively participated in postgraduate research in Analytical Chemistry which included lectures and supervision of PhD research Fellows and produced 4 PhD with several International Publications to his credit.

● Teaching Expertise:For more than forty (40) years Prof. Ahmed has trained more than 5000 students in home and abroad lecturing and demonstrating at under- and postgraduate levels on all fields of Analytical Chemistry (Qualitative-, Quantitative- and Instrumental Analysis), Method Development and Validation using Modern Spectroscopic Techniques (AAS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, Spectrophotometry, Spectrofluorimetry, FIA, etc.). Separation Sciences (separation and determination of toxic metals, carbohydrates, glycosides, amino acids and protein by HPLC, HPCE, GC-MS and LC-MS/aMS). Arsenic contamination in groundwater of Bangladesh: causes, effects & remedy. Environmental Analytical Methods, Statistical Methods of Analysis, Sampling and Sample Preparation Techniques, Electro-analytical Techniques. Automated and Automatic Analysis. Thermal Analysis, Food Safety and Nutrient Analysis and Nanotechnology. Laboratory Accreditation ISO 17025, Quality Assurance and Quality Control and Inter-laboratory Studies.
● Research Expertise: (i) Prof. Ahmed worked for more than 40 years on the Development, of new Analytical Methods based on modern Spectroscopic, Electroanalytical, Bioanalytical, FIA and Kinetic Methods for Trace and Ultra-trace Determination of Essential, Toxic and Heavy metals in different Matrices ii) Introduction of suitable new analytical reagents thorough novel reaction techniques iii)Introduction of suitable surfactants in Analytical Chemistry. iv) Separation Sciences: Analytical method development for emerging contaminants in different foodstuffs using GC-MS, LC-MS-MS, HPLC, HPCE, etc. v) Physicochemical assessment of surface- and groundwater resources of Bangladesh vi) Chemical assessment of gaseous pollutants, particulate matters and trace- metals in the air of major cities of Bangladesh vii)Development of Photoelectrochemical Sensors for the Detection of DNA Damage Induced by Some Nanoparticles, viii) Food and Environmental Analysis. His research was supported and funded by many European and National sources.
● Prof. Ahmed has 40 years Teaching and Research Experience. He supervised Research works of more than 130 post-graduate students (14 PhD, 8 MPhil & 110 MS students) at home & abroad. Presently 3 PhD, 2 M. Phil. & 6 MS students are working under his direct supervision.
● Honour, Projects & Awards:Prof. Ahmed got prestigious best BAAS Award from President Govt. of
Bangladesh in 1994. He got RSC best Award at Birmingham in 2001. He got best awards for
best research Paper Presentations from Australia, India, Pakistan and Turkey in 1997, 1998,
2010 & 2014 and 2012, respectively
● Project:He has Successfully Completed the Several Projects of Ministry of Science and Technology in
2009, 2010, 2011 & 2013, respectively and
● Awards:He has Successfully Completed the Research Fund Grants of Royal Society of Chemistry
