Read More On January 30, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced a global warning due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 disease. The transmission and pathogenicity of this disease is very high and it rapid global spread. Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most common diseases in the world, the main symptom of which is chronic high blood sugar. In various studies, the possible relationship between diabetes and COVID-19 has been investigated. Corona has been more severe in diabetic patients than in healthy people. Identifying risk factors for COVID-19 is crucial and can play a role in determining treatment priorities; this study was conducted to investigate the frequency of COVID-19 patients with diabetes and the relationship between the two diseases in Ghaem Hospital, Mashhad. In this study, the information available in the medical archive in Ghaem Hospital of Mashhad related to the patients hospitalized due to Coronavirus from April 2019 to September 2021 was used. Demographic information of the patients, including the history of diabetes, blood sugar level, and recovery status was extracted from the files by the project student, and then patients with diabetes were randomly selected with the help of a random number table, by calling the patient or first-degree relatives through the number registered in the file, if possible, information related to have toothache during and after hospitalization, and oral ulcers. During and after hospitalization, the type of diabetes was taken and recorded. In this study, the information of 1370 patients were analyzed. Among the patients, 61.5% had diabetes. 52.9% of cases were related to men and 47.1% were related to women. The mortality rate in patients with diabetes (38.3%) was significantly higher than that in people without diabetes (30.7%). Likewise, the average age of people who died due to Corona was higher than those who were discharged. Oral ulcers during hospitalization were reported in 58.1% of people with type 1 diabetes and 35.3% of people with type II diabetes, and the difference between them was also significant. Oral ulcers after hospitalization were seen in 16.3% of people with type 1 diabetes and 1.5% of people with type II diabetes. In this study, the death rate of patients with diabetes was higher than that of normal people. It was reported that people with type I diabetes have more oral ulcers than people with type II diabetes, which requires more dental attention for these people.

Read More Background and aim: Assessment of the prognosis of the intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is important in case of patients’ follow up and management. It is reported that there might be some links between serum troponin levels (TPI) and ICH. However, there is a gap of knowledge in case of nontraumatic cases. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between TPI and prognosis of patients with non-traumatic cerebral hemorrhage.Method: This retrospective cohort study was conducted on all non-traumatic stroke patients referred to the emergency room of Ghaem Hospital (AJ) on patients with confirmed ICH in CT scan. Patients were included in the study after obtaining consent from them or their legal guardians. Brain CT scan was used to determine the location and volume of bleeding, midline changes, and presence of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). The bleeding volume was estimated using the formula (ABC)/2. The primary troponin (cTnT) test was performed within 12 hours of the onset of symptoms for each patient. A serum cTnT value ≥0.01 ng/ml was set as the cut-off value, and then the patients were divided into two groups: normal troponin and increased troponin level, and also their prognosis was determined based on the ICH Score and Predicting Mortality after Acute ICH table. Next, after 3 days, all patients in both groups were contacted and their disease status was determined based on the Modified Ranking Scale. The collected data were subjected to statistical analysis by SPSS.Results: A total of 387 patients were included in our study, including 214 men (55.3%) and 173 (44.7%) women. The average age of the patients was 66.16 years and ranged from 19 to 95 years. 81 patients (20.9%) had increased troponin based on the determined level. In addition, 174 patients (45.0%) died during hospitalization. The mean of ICH Score was 2.37 ± 0.99 and the mean of Modified Ranking Scale was 3.24 ± 2.49. There was no significant difference in terms of troponin level (p=0.250) and gender (p=0.508) between those who died and those who were discharged with partial recovery.Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between troponin and the outcome of non-traumatic brain hemorrhage patients, but after adjustments, the troponin levels were increased. However, it seems that the level of 0.01 ng investigated in our study is not suitable, and it is possible that other levels will provide better results.

Read More Introduction: Understanding the interplay of paraclinical factors in individuals with COVID-19 is crucial for predicting disease prognosis. This study aims to explore the correlation between lymphocyte count, C-reactive protein (CRP) serum levels, CT scan findings, and the ultimate outcome in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia at Valiasr Hospital in Birjand.Methods: Conducting a retrospective analysis, this study investigated 258 COVID-19 patients aged 14 and above, who sought medical attention at Valiasr Hospital in Birjand city in 2020. The research meticulously documented patients' demographic details encompassing gender, age, education level, underlying health conditions, lymphocyte count, and other pertinent information. CT scan findings, the ultimate patient outcomes, and serum levels of CRP were systematically recorded and comprehensively analyzed using a study checklist. This comprehensive examination aims to provide a detailed retrospective understanding of the multifaceted factors influencing COVID-19 outcomes among patients in Birjand.Findings: The average age was 61.06±20.06 years. 50.8% of patients were male. 10.9% of patients died. The average number of lymphocytes did not differ significantly according to the severity of lung involvement (P=0.291), but the average number of WBC (P=0.031), the percentage of lymphocytes (P=0.047) and CRP (P<0.001) was significantly different from each other according to the severity of the conflict. CRP levels in discharged group were significantly lower than dead, ward and ICU admitted ones (P<0.05). CRP levels were significantly lower in without lung involvement patients than all other groups except the mild involvement group (P<0.05).Conclusion: Elevated serum levels of CRP and white blood cell count, coupled with a decrease in lymphocyte percentage, were linked to more lung involvement. Furthermore, a reduction in both the number and percentage of lymphocytes correlated with a more severe condition as well as the high CRP levels’ effect.
